Kids Help with IE Problem

G'day all,

I've got a little problem that should be easy for one of you guys/gals so here it is.

I'm running IE on Windows XP and every time I log into my profile and start IE, it starts up and then shortly after I start browsing a message comes up saying that IE has encountered some sort of error (I can't quite remember exactly what) and has to shut down and asks me if I want to send a report or not. When I pick one or the other the browser closes. I start the browser again and everything works just fine, no problems whatsoever, but every time I initially start up the browser after logging into my profile this happens and it's fine after I go in the second time............any ideas???

One other question is

How do I get rid of an internet address that keeps placing itself in as my homepage?? I've went into Tools/Internet Options and put the homepage address I want and applied it, but when I log into my profile the next time it's back?? How can I get rid of this nasty little annoyance??

Thanks Much in Advance,
Max

It is probably one in the same thing. explorer is trying to stop the Hijack.
Try spybot or ad aware
There is also a program called Browser hijack blaster that is spacificaly for that.

I agree.

Sounds like spyware.

What page are you being taken to BTW?

Just as soon not have the URL .... just the name of the site will do.

Just a tidbit that I should have included with the origional post is that IE was doing the Shutdown thing before this homepage thing started, so I don't think the two are related in that aspect as they both didn't appear at the same time.

Thanks for the help

There are spyware files that will hijack your homepage...clean them out first using Ad-aware & Spybot, then do the following easy solution...use the Group Policy Editor.

Click start--run, type in gpedit.msc.

Check out this pic to see where you need to navigate.

Then, to prevent your homepage from being changed, go here...

That should do it...

Nada problemo...more like the dummy's guide to GPE though...not many people actually even know it exists.

You didn't, did ya? Come on, come on...just admit that you didn't!

Hey, I could have just said "use group policy editor to fix it".
