Whoaa! Some harsh words there, but that's OK.....I hate Windows XP & I know some people just love it.

As for an opinion??..........well, if somebody were giving me a cpu for FREE?? I'd take the P4 every time..................BUT.............If I were paying for it, I'd take a CELERON every day of the week and twice on Sunday!!!!!!!! No bull!!

I have 2 systems running P4's (2.4 & 2.5) and 2 other systems both running 2.4 celerons..........I've yet to see the difference in 6 months' time! (Keep in mind, I'm talking about TODAY's Celeron's, not the celerons of years past!)

well i have to say this...I built a system for my girlfriend with a celeron and it runs great but she only uses her comp for Net and word processing and the occasional NES emulation. So its OK for her needs but it certainly cant handle the more intense games ive thrown at it. I can notice a difference between it and a friend of mines barton......just my $.02

compared to it's self a celly is just fine for most comp users. I buy and (try to) sell some Dell Dimensions and most come with 2-2.3g cellys. They are just fine for watching dvd's, surfing, using word etc. I also put game demos on em and they are just fine even with onboard graphics....now, I dont mean games like Might and Magic, lol. Stuff like Suddenstrike, aboutGolf world tours2, bugatron,Aironix etc....on some of em it will skip a frame once in a while but for the average user they are fine.

Now, I said COMPARED TO THEMSELVES they are ok....lol.....but if you take the price of a celly and motherboard and compare it to a Athlon XP and board....it makes absolutely no sense to buy a celly AT ALL....the only sense it would make is if you had a decent market for P4's also and you wanted to use the same boards and give the people that future upgrade path....but even that seems foolish to me unless they want the TOP performance possible and are willing to pay for it. Otherwise a socket A board with a 400fsb just makes more sense to me.

Here! Here!

My folks got a Dimension with the dreaded celly in it. But they are tied to a dial-up service and never do anything more intense than e-mail. I added some RAM and they are as happy as clams. I only paid a coupla hundred for it and that included some software they find useful as well as 6 months of Earthlink.

But if I were building one on a budget it is still AMD.

for people here , mostly gamers , i would agree a celeron will not cut the mustard .

but for the average user . a celeron will work just fine for them . the celeron has never been a favorite of the gamer except for the 300a but that was many many moons ago .
