Kids What KVM Switch

I need to replace my Belkin OmniView Pro 4 Port KVM switch and I’m looking for recommendations. I’ve been moderately satisfied with this product, but there has been room for improvement. Specifically, the video quality has been good and I like the on screen switching mode. But the switch will often lose my laptop (Belkin says that because the laptop uses a PS/2 splitter it is “not supported.” Even if I only have a mouse or a keyboard hooked up, it still gets lost). Also, the keyboard switching requires the double clicking of the ScrLk key. However, I sometimes have to hit it repeatedly before the switching function activates.

Also, I recently tried one of Belkin’s OmniView SE Plus switches. In addition to repeating the two drawbacks I mentioned above, I was very disappointed in the video quality. As a result, I want to look at other products before I rush to another OmniView.

I’ve had good luck at my office with the Linksys compact series, but they are anything but compact. The actual KVM switch may be small, but with cables coming out of it on three sides, it takes up A LOT of desk space and is a disaster from a cable management point of view. Also, the Linksys uses the Ctrl key as the keyboard switch key, which is not ideal for game play.

What are other people’s experiences?

IOGEAR MiniView Micro 2 Port Model GCS62 KVM Switch Retail.

Sweet KVM switch...we use them at work, easy to setup and does not require power. Hit scroll lock twice to toggle computers.

Oops, where are my manners...

Welcome to TechIMO!!!

You can't go wrong with either an Aten or an Iogear as Martoch has suggested. I have both and they are basically the same and very good units. Just be careful that you know whether you're getting the good quality cables with it or not. As a matter of fact, cable quality may be part of your problem with the Belkin.

I got the 4 port Iogear at Best Buy the other day for only $79.
That was a good deal I thought.
It works GREAT too!

I've got the linksys integrated KVM. Do you have to have a 4-port one? I like the linksys one, supports high resolutions. I've had it for over a year and it I still love it.
