SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 4, 2003--AMD (NYSE:AMD - News) announced today that the AMD Athlon(TM) 64 FX-51 processor received the 2003 Readers' Choice Award as the "Best Innovation in CPUs" from Tom's Hardware Guide.
The AMD Athlon 64 FX-51 processor based on AMD64 technology is the world's highest performing 32-bit PC processor and the world's only Windows®-compatible 64-bit PC processor.

"Readers of Tom's Hardware Guide are known for their extreme passion about technical innovations and products that benefit consumers the most," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager, Microprocessor Business Unit, AMD. "This award confirms what AMD employees have known all along -- tech-savvy consumers want the performance of 32-bit and the power of 64-bit computing at their fingertips and AMD64 technology delivers. We thank Tom's Hardware Guide and its readers for this award."

"We congratulate AMD on winning the Tom's Hardware Guide Readers' Choice Award for 'Best Innovation in CPUs' for 2003," said Omid Rahmat, general manager, Tom's Hardware Guide. "By gaining the recognition of our readers -- tech-savvy PC enthusiasts who are on the edge of technological innovations -- AMD has proven itself to be a technology leader in its field."

About AMD64 Technology

AMD first unleashed AMD64 technology in April 2003 with the launch of the AMD Opteron(TM) processor for servers and workstations. The AMD Athlon 64 processors are the first desktop and notebook processors based on the AMD64 architecture.

The AMD64 technology follows the evolutionary path of the industry-standard x86 architecture, allowing development of a unified 64-bit computing infrastructure designed to be fully compatible with the pervasive x86 architecture. AMD64 technology allows customers to protect their investments by continuing to use their 32-bit software until they decide to implement 64-bit software.

About AMD

Founded in 1969 and based in Sunnyvale, California, AMD is a global supplier of integrated circuits for the personal and networked computer and communications markets with manufacturing facilities in the United States, Europe, Japan, and Asia. AMD, a Standard & Poor's 500 company, produces microprocessors, Flash memory devices, and silicon-based solutions for communications and networking applications. "
