RIAA sues computer-less retiree

79-yr-old retiress, Ernest Brenot, who claims he doesn't even own a computer, has been sued by the RIAA for illegally offering 774 songs. He submitted a hand-written note to the federal judge explaining that he doesn't even know how to operate a computer.

He and his wife are "offended at the suggestion they listened to such music", including artists such as Vanilla Ice, U2, Creed, Linkin Park and Guns N' Roses.

Can you blame them?

He should counter-sue for defamation and emotional distress.

What's happened with the RIAA is really too bad.

The bottom line is that their scare tactics are working. Usage of file swapping systems has dropped dramatically, and the public is afraid to download songs.

Energized by that, they're going to just keep pushing further and further with their lawsuits. Not only will it keep file sharing down, but they can make money at it as well.

Until a judge steps in to stop them, or the public rises up against them, it's only going to get worse.

defemation of charictor AND Libel slander (written) since the accustations were unjust and untrue. He could get a double whammy on them. Id sue the crap outta them. Just to make them think before handing out so many lawsuits. Yep- in america your innocent till proven guilty-oh wait that was before Sept. 11th and home land securtiy act. What a joke. Should have calle dit the "bring communisem to the US act" or "little Hitler Jr's big idea"

haha wouldn't that be awesome!

This isn't the first time, and won't be the last time that the RIAA has tried suing someone that has nothing to do with file-sharing, or downloading music.

The courts are slowly getting tired of the RIAA, and telling them where they can shove the suits.

Yes several courts have recently ruled that the RIAA blanket lawstuits and subponeas are wrong. I'm not sure if they ruled them as unconstitutional or not but I know they have put a stop to alot of the RIAA's actions {for now}
