aim trojan/virus/thingy

sorry if this has been posted already, i recently got a AIM virus thingy. it is one of those things that put a link in your profile and wont go away. i went to AIM's site and followed all their instructions for removal. i used adaware, NAV, deleted all my temp files, temp internet files, cookies, everything i can think of and it is still there. it is the one that says "i cant beleive i found xxxx's picture here *link* HAHAHA" the link is to buddypicture.net, but i DO NOT advise you visit that site unless you want this crap on your computer too. is there any sure fire way to get rid of this crap? other than format c:

your aim profile is stored on your computer you need to find where it is and delete it should be c/program files/ aim and its in there somewhere under your sn i think

it might be listed under common files/aim as well...it will be the folder that has your sn just search for that folder and delete the profile from there.

you also need to check for viruses installed on your computer make sure you ahve all the updates for your virus scanner as well as spybot/adaware

Not to thread crap, but have you tried Trillian? You won't get those things if you use it.

You don't need to have more than AIM to use it. Just install it, and present your AIM name and password. It will automatically download your buddy list and should work fine from their.

yeah most 3rd party clients support multiple protocols but you dont need to have every protocol to use it. On windows I prefer trillian. I have also used gaim on windows but would not recomend it (it has weird issues). Also, miranda IM is kinda nifty (install it on a floppy and take it to school with you). Ive also seen people use Eyeball chat which if the person you are also talking to has it and a webcam, then you can video conference while you chat!

Miranda is OK, I used it for a while but it needs to be fixed for the casual user to feel comfortable with.

the casual user is probably just going to go on one of those websites with a java aim client

Im pretty sure miranda was made to take with you on a floppy.

But I do agree that its interface could be improved.
