downgrading an OS

does anyone know how/where i can go to downgrade OSs from XP to 98?

why you ask?
b/c i just picked up an old laptop. its has XP on it and had 98.
this p.o.s. only has 64megs of ram and a 10gig harddrive.
its slow as hell... im wanting to send it to my sister so she has something for school. i cant send this thing to her in this condition.

or is there anything i can do to make it run at a decent rate?

any help is appreciated.

all you can do is format and reinstall w/98

OR if its fat32 rather then ntfs, delete the windows folder and format the master boot record (in dos), then install 98 - if there is any data you NEED

edit - i cant spell

Free? Probably nowhere. Unless its pirated, which is illegal. Places like www.ebay.com sell software cheap somtimes. I came across this site oneday while surfing the net :http://www.9software.com/
Cheap prices but never bought from them.

windows no longer supports 98, so it should be cheaper these days then it used to be - i would say under $50 possibly

No problem. Yes i think it would. 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features.

Heres what a google search came up with.
Maximum memory: 192 MB
Standard memory: 64 MB (non-removable) Not sure what that means?
Slots: 1 socket
The 192 + 64 = 256. So I think 256 will work.
Never heard of a 192 MB ram chip.
And it would have to be PC100 SDRAM SODIMMs not DDR ram like you have not compatible. Will not work. Never use DDR ram in Sdram slots will probaby mess things up.
