9500 pro or 9600 XT?

Hi,

I've heard that the 9500 pro beats the 9600 XT but not by much. Before I go out and buy one i wanted to know which one you guys would suggest. (my brothers friend has a 9500 pro and it beats his other friends 9600 XT).

A 9500 Pro should not be able to beat a 9600 XT... A 9500 Pro is only slightly faster than a 9600 Pro, and the 9600 Pro can overclock better than 9500 Pro's giving them an edge... A 9600 XT is basically an overclocked 9600 Pro, hence it should be faster than a 9500 Pro... Furthermore, it'll probably be pretty hard to find 9500 Pro's brand new right now since ATI stopped production on them quite a while ago.

Oh yeah, welcome to TechIMO!

From what I have read, I believe that overclocking a 9500pro will beat a 9600xt overclocked, at default the xt is slightly faster. When AA are cranked the 8 Vs 4 pixel pipelines become more important, and the 9500pro is a superior product

True, and because of its 8 Pixel pipeline, it will do Anti Aliasing and Anisotropic filtering much much better. The 9600 XT will be faster for all you peeps who like to run games withought such features.

But you get Half Life 2 with the XT. That's like 50 bucks shaved off right there.
