1.2 million files -- Answered

OK, the question is; How can I delete 1.2 milion files from a single folder,easily?

Win2K system. Let me know if you need any other information.

I would do it from a command prompt so you don't have to wait for Windows to do its pre-delete check first.

Heh

Command prompt doesn't work, too many files, the computer locks up. It is a 1Ghz processor with 256mb Ram.

This is our spam wastebasket which was supposed to be deleted but never was. (no, it was no my fault.) I just want to be the one who figures out how to fix it.

have you tried just deleting the folder? what about deleting it from another computer, if this one is on a network?

maybe deleting one type at a time?

del *.dat
del *.jpg

or alphabetically

del a*.*
del b*.*

etc...

whe you delete it by command prompt, are you just openning a cmd window? if so, try to boot to command line only.
