IBM ThinkPad I Series battery problem

This is my first post. I hope somebody can help me.
I have a IBM thinkpad 1300. It has a Li-ion battery. I tried to refresh the battery so that I could recharge it completely. Now I can't get the system to boot with the batery in it. When I turn the systme on with the ac plugged in and the battery in, the green battery light just flashes and the fan comes and it clicks, all in a cycle as if its still trying to come on. The system boots fine with no battery (just the ac), but the minute I put the battery in, I get the problem. There is no way to use or charge the battery. I also bought a new battery, but it wouldn't charge properly either and eventually just drained. I am running WIN2K and WINXP (dual boot). However it never gets to the operating system. BTW, there is no power managment feature in the BIOS. HELP!

It sounds like the system board is going/gone. If you can power it up by using the power supply then that may be the only way you are going to be able to use it.

The following is a link to IBM's website specific for your model, through the dropdown menus you may be able to determine if it really is a system board issue or not.

The fact that the system is not booting to the OS is also suspect of a hardware issue besides the battery. Try downloading the diagnostics and running them. If you can't even do that then you know you have a system board issue.
