I386 folder?

Does a default WinXP Home install put the i386 folder somewhere on the hard drive? (cuz I dont see it, lol)

if not, is it a good idea to go ahead and copy the folder over...I am talking about for builds to be sold.

Is there any reason NOT to copy it over?

JP

No

I can't think of any, besides taking up space.

yeah, that is an issue I guess, cuz I like making backup/restore cd's and that just about adds another cd right there...besides, everyone gets the xp cd, soo...i think I wont put it on the drive, lol.

no reason to not copy it over (unless you are short on space) and XP does NOT copy it over by default... if you do that you should also change the source path to point to the i386 folder

During install there is an option to copy the setup fileas on hard drive. Just makes it easier when you add/remove stuff or change hardware. In days of 200 GB drives, what's 300MB here or 500 MB there.

I agree with shahani on this. Space is about a 1/100 penny a meg.

Just put it on, drive space is irreverent, any system I installed from win95 thru xp I always copy eithet the win9x folder or i386 folder because sooner or later it will bite you in the ass when you install a new driver and don't have the stupid cd.

Well yeah, by space I mean on the restore cd's (not the hard drive)....I am right at 2g without the i386 folder...so if I throw that on I am going from 2 cd's to 3.
