I have been sent a picture file with extension .tif,what application do I need to install to open this picture?

cant you open it with Imaging? the program comes with every windows (i think), it's at the same place as paint!

I'd suggest Infranview.

Paint Shop Pro v4 is a non-expiring evaluation version that should work for you also.
