Good recommendation Rick.

I have been pushing Sygate ever since awarding the firewall its first ever "editor's award" back in the day. Sygate worked great then; still works great now!

If for some reason you do not like Sygate, then ZoneAlarm comes in at a close second.

ZoneAlarm is a good one too.

Edit: Dang I'm getting slow in my old age!

I use zone alarm and would recommend it to anyone. I am especially impressed with the way it handles port 113 (i.e.; smart enough to stealth this port against random probes, while still showing it as "closed" to queries from valid servers), which is something that many other firewalls do not address...

Okay- I have Sygate and it seems to work fine. I am trying to upgrade to version 5.5. Does anyone know how to install this version??

Two things happen- when I try to install I get a currupt installation message- (have downloaded twice)

Thinking I might have to uninstall my current version, I try that and it won't uninstall. If I use the remove programs on WindowXP, I get a complete mess and wind up backdating my system to fix it.

Do any of you Sygate experts know what I can do to uninstall this program?

Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling 5.0 over what you already have? Then try the uninstall from 'Add/Remove Programs'. Then you should be able to add 5.5.
