Steam Question?

I freshly formated my hard drive and re-installed windows. I just need to know if i need to install halflife, then counterstrike and then steam or if i can just install steam?

Steam is the new POS way to play Half Life and all it's mod. Override you can download a huge full Steam install file (>600mb) or ones with just half-life and one of its mod (they are a bit smaller). But basically you download the whole game standalone but you need to have a half-life or counterstrike cd key handy. As in a cdkey you own, cause keygens won't work.

All you need to do is download steam. I'd recommend getting the full cache install 700+MB It should save on some headaches. Just make sure you have a real cd key. Otherwise you should be set.

Last time I checked, you had to have BOUGHT and installed HL retail or CS reatil in order to use steam.

install HL, counter-strike, steam

i think you can install steam directly, just make sure to have the h/l cd key handy

Not any more. Just download ricochete steam installer (15mb mod) and then download the rest through steam it has prety good bandwidth. Does any one have any cdkeys they can trade me/ give me?

I only downloaded the Steam installer with all the supported mods for Half-Life. I didn't need to install HL or CS from a CD or anything, but I did have to enter my CD key to create an account with Steam.
