2.0 is at least twice as fast as 1.1.
In device manager under USB controller it should tell you.

Yes, but do the 2.0 USB FIT into the older types like 1.1? I am wanting to buy a mp3 player and it requires usb 2.0. will it work on my pc (bought in 2000) or will i have to upgrade my USB ports?

As far as I know both the ports and devices are backward compatable. Of cource you wont get the high speed unless both are 2.0.

Ok, they will "fit"..but if the thing absolutely REQUIRES usb 2..then it probably wont work on usb1 motherboard.

Some stuff, like external cdrws..they work on both types of usb ports BUT..they just work slower on usb 1..for instance a cdrw may do 24x on usb2 but only 4x on usb 1.

You can buy usb 2 pci cards to give you usb2 ports.

Why dont you post up a link to the mp3 player and we will check it out for you....
