Kids Advice for DVD-RW Purchase?

Fellow Members:

Any suggestions for DVD-RW?

My system:

IWill XP333-R (RAID not used ... how unusual?!?)
XP 1900+
1 GB PC2700 / 2.5
Parhelia vidcard with pair Samsung SyncMasters
Maxtor 40BG ATA133Fastdrive
Plextor CD-R 16/10/40
OS: Win2KPro
Linksys DSL

IDE interface or PCI card (firewire/other) or advice?
Brand?
Prefer internal (several bays available in full tower) but flexible ...
Good buys?

For: Data storage & perhaps vidcapture ...

Thx.

DARN!! GZ3 already got to it. As mentioned in that thread I think the Pioneer DRU-A06 is about the best available right now.

The Pioneer 106D is the EXACT same drive as the A06...just no Pioneer decal on the front. I talked to an upper level tech support guy at Pioneer just to be sure...

Reason I asked if you didnt want dual format is because you only asked about one type. the -RW. There are some drives that can only write to +RW. My College has a lab full of them which I dont understand but hey... Yeah just incase you missed it dual format is the ability to write to DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+R/DVD+RW. A usefull feature.. there are a few burnes now sporting tripple format which isnt actually new but it just means they support the first DVD disk which was DVD-RAM which has next to 0% compatability and is for data storage which is why I didnt talk about it in the other thread.

phenious:The reason, truth be told, that I inquired "Any suggestions for DVD-RW?" is I was hyphenating just as I would CD-RW --> I had no idea that "-R" or "+R" formats existed!

In any event, I appreciate the experienced opinions espoused on both threads.

I ordered the: DVR|PIONEER DVR-106D DVD+/-RW from www.Newegg.com about an hour ago. Not to be a conformist, but it seemed sensible. Unbelievable such technology is now available at such prices.

BTW: What's the deal regarding DVD X Copy Xpress that Mr. Martoch mentioned in his post on the oft referenced other thread? I'll Google it, but wondering if it's a "necessary" side dish with my purchase? (Now that I've already placed the order!) Well, it's only money, right?

Thx!

" What's the deal regarding DVD X Copy Xpress"

It allows you to copy/back up valuable DVD movies. You can the cheap media for your every day use and the original as a master copy. It bypasses the anti-copying format in most(if not all) DVDs.

So if you r gonna be copying mainsteam DVDs it may be worth the bucks. Depends on what you need the DVD recorder for.

BTW now that you've bought the burner you'll need media While I was searching for a decent price I came across this :

Sonix 4x DVD-R Media. Available in 25, 50, 100, 200 and 500 packs

$0.79 to $0.73 each
you might want to check them out. Does anyone else have any experience with these disks? I have no experience with this brand, but It seams to be a good buy, but if Sonix media becomes coasters I'd want to stay away
