Epson Stylus C40S printer on the fritz!

Epson C40S printer won't print - has been printing. Suddenly now all we get when we turn printer on is the power and maintenance buttons flash alternately (back and forth; red/green/red/green/red/green/red, etc.). Pressing power button turns printer on or off, but printer does nothing else but flash alternately. Epson sources I've tried don't seem to explain what this indicates.

Is connected via USB connector to Aptiva with Win98.

Recently tried refilling black cartridge wiyh refill kit - afterwards printer did print a few pages and then problem started. Removed both cartridges, but problem continues.

Welcome to the forum!

i think you have solved your own problem there...somehow the refilling has mucked it up.

I get decent cheep c40 ink from www.meritline.com

some meritline coupons here

Why not just try a cheap replacement cartridge and see if that fixes it. Maybe it isnt recognizing that it is refilled. Seems that once it starts warning you that it is low it lets you keep going for a while etc..but after a point it wont.

So, you're saying refilled cartridge is the culprit?

would be my first guess...and if you can get another cartridge pretty cheap, then I would just do that as a way to troubleshoot the issue. Of course, besides the cartridge there isnt much to go wrong...if its not the cartridge youre looking at throwing away the printer, lol.

I was hoping someone would know what the alternating indicator light pattern would mean and how to fix it. Doesn't someone here know?

John are you serious about throwing the printer away? (lol?)Appreciate your help, but please be serious.

Dude, look into my eyes, I am serious...lol.

What I mean is that there are no servicable parts on a printer...you have cartridges and....cartridges, lol.

What does the manual say? What does the epson website say?
