duel channel on MSI motherboard ??

"Quote" from amd forum... Slots 1 and 2 share a controller, slot 3 is on the other controller. If you want to run dual channel then there should be a 512 stick in slot 3 and a 256MB stick in slots 1 and 2 to maintain DC operation the amount of memory on each controller should be equal

was told this, but was also told that if i just have 2 sticks that are the same make, model and mem size, with one in slot 1 and one in slot 3, would get duel channel..anyone have any thoughts on this...or know how this works....thank you....

No, you need to have them in slots 2 & 3, if you add a third stick in slot 1 it will drop to single-channel mode automatically. Ditto for 2 sticks in slots 1 & 2.

Edit - On nForce2 mobo's, slots 1 & 2 are actually labeled slots 2 & 3. Slot 1 is for one stick in single channel mode, and slots 2 & 3 are for dual-channel.

Also it would be ideal to get two identical sticks, same size/speed and of coarse same brand.
To get the dual channel you wouldn't need them to be the same size or speed. However the sticks will only run at the speed of the slowest stick in there.

on my MSI 865PE Neo2 with 4 slots: If using 2 sticks 256-1GB for dual channel you need to have them in either slot 1 and slot 3 or slot 2 and slot 4. For running up to the 4GB supported ram in Dual Channel you need to fill all 4 slots with a stick of 512-1GB.

I have mine in Slot 2 and Slot 4 (Channel A- 512MB slot 2, Channel B- 512MB slot 4) BIOS SHOWS DUAL CHANNEL, LINER MODE

ok...here is the lowdown...did some research..says here in my manuel....my mainboard provides 3 slots, up to 3 GB.
Also supports 128-bit dual channel DDR when you install DDR modules on DIMM1 and DIMM3, or DIMM2 and DIMM3.

Does not say I have to have one 256 in DIMM1 and a 512 in DIMM3, so i believe i am running dual channel since it does come up on start up as Sweeper commented on.

MSI K7N2 Delta Series, 400 FSB edition, AGP X8 support,5.1 Channel audio, Real 128bit Memory Bus, NVIDIA nForce 2 Chipset

512 Total mem.

Yeah I would scrap that idea someone had givin you about the 256 stick and 512. It wouldn't even be logical to not use two identical sticks.
However good to hear you have it sorted
