Invention Contest

**srry mods, if I posted it in the wrong section. this seems its general tech, but it could also be in the non-tech section too ***

Hey everyone,
I'm thinking to enter an invention contest. I think its a school sponsored contest, i'll post back more info because my bro will get me the entry form..

I was thinking of making a minipc gaming system that connects to the tv. I want to make it as low cost as possible, but still have better graphics than the PS2 or xBox.
The reason for making this mini gaming system (like the shuttle xpc) is that there is faster load times than the gaming console and better graphics. You can see tv on it, and also dvds. It will also have better sound.... You can also use it like a pc too
Can someone help me get started on finding the prices or the parts to assemble this system?

or........

Does anyone have any better suggestions that has to do with computers?

thanks, paul

Hmmm...minipcs for gaming have been so overdone it may be best to look elsewhere...

Heck, just look at 'Infinium Labs' and the Phantom (aptly named ).

However, you can do ALOT with computers and such, especially if you learn how to make use of the serial and parallel ports

I've seen all sorts of crazy ideas on the net you can get inspiration from (inspiration, not plagarism). You may be interested in doing something robotic, like a smart battle-bot or something (that would take a while to make though). I've seen a little robot controlled by a Ti-83 somewhere on tehinternet. Basically all you do is program the AI for it, however simple or complex. Maybe something to think about.

Main questions I need to ask are: a) When do you have to make this stuff by? b) How much are you willing to spend/How much junk do you have lying around? and c) What are rules and restrictions for these inventions (like, do they allow bits of gunpowder for a combustion chamber, etc?)

you know how the rearview mirror in your car can flip if the headlights behind youare too bright? you should do that to the side mirrors too.... i hate being blinded when a truck or SUV comes up behind me...

as for the gaming pc.... doesnt seem as much of an invention as it is just a different use..

hey good idea! i've had that problem too... I do not know how to do it, but i'll figure it out. Its too cold outside to look at the side mirror assembly right now.... keep on pouring the ideas guys/gals! lol

Maybe a gaming pc doesn't seem like an invention anymore.
thanks, paul
