Cooling advice

Hey guys what's going on?
Well I'm getting interested in better cooling for my computer.
Currently my computer temperature seems to be:

CPU: 64 C / 147 F
System: 45 C / 113 F

(checked through bios)

Currently I am using stock AMD 1800+ stock fan/heatsink and some no name case fan.

What company and fans would you recommend and what products for heatsink/cpu fan/case fan(s)?

What about thermal paste? I know that Artic Silver is pretty popular. Would you recommend Artic Silver 5?

Here's a link to some company products. (Newegg)

Thanks for any help you can give me.Cooling companies

Let's start by finding out what sort of case you have.

How do I find that out?
I tried opening the case and looking around but no company and or model number.

How many bays you have? That will give us an idea what size the case. You're running pretty hot there. Needs to move the air out.

I have three bays.
It comes with a "fan hole" in the back and one on the bottom.

a few good links on cooling...

You may get good results from adding a blowhole on side of case directly over the HSF... blowing cool air into the HSF, directly from outside.
If you want a good HSF then I would look at the SLK line of heatsinks wich IMO are amazing...
heres an option for looks...
HeatSink... or one of the other models.

this is similar to my setup and looks like my Avatar.

Wow thanks for all the info JP.
A lot of good useful info. But I was wondering if I should get that Artic Silver 5 now or wait til I get a new heat sink?

Also how much of a temperature drop would I notice if I applied the paste?

I think they claim up to a 5 degree drop. But I have only noticed about a 2 Degree drop when I have applied it. Bigger Heat sinks and bigger fans normally help the most when cooling a CPU but at the same time the heat needs some where to go which is where a good air flow comes in. Try to tidy up the case wires so the air can flow freely... I seem to get the best results when I have more air moving out of the case then I have moving in.

take some pics of the case with the side off that will help us out bigtime . you might have a rat nest of cables , that will make for bad air flow . are you overclocking ? do you have case fans already installed ?

as far as fans go . any ball bearing fan will be fine if your on a budget .
