Extracting Audio from .wmv

Anyone know any programs that can extract audio(to .wav) from a .wmv file? I have tried TMPGEnc but it wouldn't completely extract it...

You can use GraphEdit to dump the audio to another file container and compression format. Check out my old guide at Romulus2....

Hope this helps,

CDex has nothing to do with Video files... I think you misread the WMV to WMA

Okay, I got the GraphEdit program.. I read your guide, it seems to be old... I couldn't follow it after it says "Simply select the filter, then click "Insert Filter". A new dialog interface will open asking for the input source file." no dialog interface opens...

That program seems kind of a complicating way though...

A new window should open asking "Which filters do you want to insert?" You can add the proper filters from there. GraphEdit is my personal preference, but you are right, it can be complicated.

Give this a go instead....

AsfTools can extract a Windows Media format audio stream to a WAV file. You can then compress it to whatever you want, such as MP3 or AAC.

That AsfTools is definitely easier but it extracts the .wav by always using DivX ACM Codec so it would not play on my computer since I don't have it

Oh, and the question before... The Add filter dialog does appear but what doesn't is, it never asks for input source file where you add the .wmv file...

You have to start with a source media filter. Once added, then it will ask for the input (file in this case).

Now to AsfTools.... DivX ACM is really an early version of Windows Media Audio. Anyway, it should play fine if you installed the Nimo codec pack I mentioned in the article.
