I got the 9800NP. Sapphire. Works great-but that isnt answering your question-sorry.

"does it proform close to the 9800?"

For the most part. About 15% slower in high AA and AF at high res. ONLY> with AA and AF enabled from what I hear though. They added some dx9 optimisations to tweak the AA and AF high res modes. Some bandwidth efficiency tweaks is what it was. So suttle diff. Avg. gaming-wont know the diff less you game at 1600x1200 32 bit 2x AA 8x AF and such. Normal gaming res and detail.......1024x768 32bit wont be a noticable diff at all. Except the 9700pro runs a little hotter than the 9800. I Imagine that was tweaked a little too or they just fixed the HS contact issue. The 9700pro introduced a SHIM unde rthe HSF. Like cpu shims it "can" put like a .01 gap or more between the gpu and the HS itself. They have supposedly fixed it-and from the temp diff folks tlak about they obviously did. The 9700's folks had heat issues with-caused lots of crashing to desktop or garabage on screeen due to gpu overheating. If yours works day1 its fine. It gives you garbled screen after bit of gaming-send it back. Thats best bet.

It's a killer card. I have the red one- and although it does run a little warm, it has never crashed or shown any artifacts. NEver oc'd, never had to.

Word! Have you noticed these things are starting to get a little hard to find? B&M stores only have the AIW version, and Newegg is off and on. Such a killer card. I highly recommend it.
