Athlon 1800XP/ECS K7VTA v3.0 HELP!!!!

31954.1

I have been trying to find out if the ECS K7VTA3 v3 motherboard, and a AMD Athlon 1800 XP are compatable? Can anyone help, or is there a site that will help?

I was told they are, and they would work fine together. It doesn't boot. I have new harddrive, memory PC2100 256DDR , new AMD Athlon 1800 XP Model 8, power supply, ect. The board is one used with a Athlon 1 ghz, so I know the board is ok.

I get a long beep and both the cd/cdrw light up. No Video/monitor, floppy, harddrive. Seems like the Motherboard isn't booting!
I have tried everything! I think!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

I don't think it's your CPU that's the problem. ECS's website says the board supports up to XP2600+ with BIOS 3.0d BUT it also requires DDR333 memory modules. You probably need different memory modules.
I did find evidence that one long beep or a repeating loop in the Award BIOS indicates a memory problem.

With an 1800+ (which is 133 MHz bus), PC2100 RAM will do. If it's OK, that is.

I went to the PNY site, and found that none of the numbers on the NEW memory given for this K7VTA3 v3 MB matches. Seems that I was sold the wrong memory, possibly! I have the information needed for the memory, and based on what I've been reading 256MB DDR PC2100 should work fine. But, there are different types of modules, now I learn.
The bad part, they don't sell this memory anymore, and I may have a problem getting a refund. I may just go with a 1 gb strip, this way I have plenty of memory for what I plan to use this comp for.
This is the board: http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/manual_k7v.html

Would this be a dual bank or single bank memory for this board? I have a single bank memory.

Well, I went to the tech, he said it's the board. He inserted a new stick of memory, it did teh samething. One beep!! no boot!
I have a K7VTA3 version 1 MB, is it compatable with a 1800XP?

So it's a v1.x not a v3.x? I can't believe you haven't checked that before ...

No Athlon XP support on that one ... too old.

Before you do that, are you even sure this one CPU you have works at all? And have you updated the v3 board's BIOS to the latest available (using an older CPU)?
