MSI DVD sound crackling

Hi

I installed an MSI DVD 16X into my pc 2 days ago. I was able to watch 3 movies perfectly, but now when I watch a movie after about 10 mins the sound starts crackling and eventually clears up. While the sound is crackling if i click on pause then resume it the sound is back to normal again. I have no idea why it suddenly stopped working. I have reisntalled the software to no avail (PowerDVD XP ver6) and even tried WinDVD.

I suspect it may have something to do with DMA mode. I'm not sure which IDE channel my DVD is using, but with the second IDE channel the device 1 is set to use DMA if available but can only use PIO.

I am using the built in soundcard on the A7N8X motherboard with the sound cable connected to the AUX port on the mobo and to the DVD drive of course.

I must have messed up something because DVDs that worked fine before now also get distorted audio.

Any suggestions appreciated!

I'd really appreciate any help - it must be software related because it was working fine to begin with. And all my research points to DMA problems because it cant be the DVD playback software as I've tried different ones and reinstalled.

I've managed to figure it out. The problem was that it wasnt using DMA even though I set it to use it if available. I uninstalled the second IDE controller and after that it was possible to use DMA.
