Outdoors Problems with DHCPD

I need some help. I'm playing around with Linux clusters, and I can't seem to get it to work (using an HDD install of clusterKNOPPIX). It seems I can't get the DHCP server up. Everything else is set up just fine, but the DHCP server is really messed up, and I don't know the first thing about DHCP v3. Sure, I know the basics of DHCP, and I know hopw to configure my router, but that's not helping me

DHCP was automatically set up when I had the machine pugged into my router (for internet access). But now the server won't start when I take the machine off the router. When the machine is on the router, the 'client' cluster won't recognize the server (I'm using a boot disk, and it hangs on 'Finding DHCP server...), probably because I have 2 DHCP servers going at once.

I'd post some exact stuff, but I cant do it tonight because I had to unplug the machine to move it. Maybe tomorrow if you guys need it.

Basically I want to know how to set up my computer to be a DHCP server when NOT on the router. I want it to have a static default IP, like, oh, 10.0.0.1, and sign up the other machines to be , oh, say, 10.0.0.2 through 10.0.0.20.
