Processor speed

Hi all,

How can I tell the speed of my processor just by looking at the chip? My friend gave me an older AMD Athlon and he thinks it is between 900 and 1400. By looking at the chip the only number I see is 27016. Anybody know how to tell without randomly putting it in boards till it works?

Thanks,

Jutah

See how this one has AX1900 on it? Yours should have some reference to a 900, 1400, etc.

Hey guys thanks

The problem is the top is all gooped up. Is there anyway to safely get rid of all the goop? That way I can see the top!

Thanks,

Jutah

Thermal pads can be scraped off with a plastic tool that will not scratch the bottom then the remnants can be removed with a xylene based cleaner, (Goof Off and some carburetor cleaners) acetone, mineral spirits, Akasa TIM-Clean, or high-purity isopropyl alcohol.

NO, don't dump it all over!

Start by scraping the mass of it off with a credit card or something like that. I recommend cleaning it with a cotton ball, slightly saturated...you don't want the liquid dripping all over the place. Just rub it semi-firmly, it will come off.
