Radeon 9600SE on AMD Duron Problem

I started my computer up after uninstalling the other card with the new card in (AGP) in the correct AGP port. At startup I got something saying it had located a "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter (VGA)" , it then asked if I would like to search for drivers. I did the search and found them and then restarted when asked. Next startup I get something saying it had located a "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter" (this didn't have VGA) on the end of it) It asked the same things and searched for a driver and aparently found one and then I resarted the computer on request. Next startup my grapics were still crappy and I couldnt change the resolution or any settings (I'm guessing this is because it was not running off my video card) I was told that my processor may need an AGP upgrade so I went to http://www.amd.com and searched for one for my OS (WinME) I think that I got the correct one (Windows® ME AGP Miniport Driver) and I installed that. I resatrted again and still no change. Could someone please help me out a little with the problem as I paid $130 for this video card and it's customer support isn't working over the weekend.

Thankyou in advance,
Alex

do you have the latest Catalyst drivers from http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html

It sounds a bit like windows just can't find the right driver for it. If thats not the case and it is a deal with your CPU needing new AGP driver it would be most likely at your motherboards website.

I think its the motherboard. I can't seem to find who made the motherboard though. It says VIA on it but thats about it. Any clues please

Thanx.

well on it there should be something that says "FCC ID:X" Where the X is should be a group of numbers and letters. Pop that number into this search.

The other thing you can do is look on the mobo for some sort of VIA identification. Something like KT266 or so. Then go over to VIA's web site and download the generic drivers.

Two things. Did you uninstall the previous drivers from your old video card? Don't let windows search for the drivers. Run the driver setup from the install CD for your new card.

Well, it looks like this machine has an integrated VGA. That's why you see two graphics devices there. Just install both VGA drivers. Uninstalling the previous VGA driver is exactly what NOT to do in this situation.

And of course you need to install the AGP port driver for the board's chipset. Not just some patches, the actual driver needs to be there too. If it's a VIA chipset, visit www.viaarena.com for this driver.
