Modem Driver
Help please,
I just installed WinXP, and I can't use my modem, I have no dial tone.
With win98 my modem was identified as Modem V90K 56Flex HSP PCI Modem and was working fine.
Now with Win XP it's identified as HSP 56 Micromodem and I don't have a dial tone.
Whenever I want to update de Driver, the program won't let me do it, It says that I have the best driver for the HSP56 Micromodem.
I looked on the card itself and here are the information I saw PCT789T
9825 K007 Japan
STLC 7546
XV14512X
A22Cv9828
Malta
FC V1456 VQH-pI
FCC No H8NTAI-33182-M5-E
What can I do.
Thank you
Germain

Sorry guys, I can't do it.
Whenever I uninstall my modem it reinstalls itself as HSP56 Micromodem, and I can't update the driver. It sya that I have the best driver for that modem.

sounds to me as if you may have to do a search/find on your computer to locate any referance to the driver XP states is the new updated driver which from your indication would be HSP56 Micromodem and delete or rename said driver.
thereafter (reboot) I would hope XP would ask/demand or inquire for a driver that I believe is posted here in this thread.
hope this helps.

The main reason it is continuing to ID the modem as a HSP56 Micromodem is because Winxp decided that is what it was. Winxp installed an .INF file for that type of modem. If you find where Winxp keeps its .INF files, locate and remove that file xp installed for that modem, then remove the modem from hardware, device manager or where ever (I have never seen Winxp...so I'm clueless about that OS) then reboot, it may not reinstall it again, and you could have a chance to reinstall it as the proper kind.
I have had modems installed under several different names or types..but they worked. I had a USR installed one time (28.8) and Win98 insisted it was a Hayes modem...it worked, so I didn't care what windows called it LOL...
Not getting a dial tone could also be something other than xp installing the modem under the wrong name. Many modems use the same drivers (depends on the chipset)..and will work just fine, if the proper drivers are installed for that particular chipset..not the name.

Modem
I reinstalled WinXP to make sure there was no drivers that made it read the modem as HSP56 Micromodem and it read it again as HSP56 Micromodem on the new installation.
Any other solution.
Thanks
Germain

Try to disable modem. Do not uninstall the modem only the driver. ("advanced" tab) Then try to update (or install) using the driver that you want. This should let you around the problem.

Modem
Unfortunately, I can't install the drivers it's not an .exe program, I need to update driver and I can't. Whenever I try to look for the driver Win XP identifies the modem as HSP56 Micromodem and indicates that I have the best driver.

This is one of the fallacies of having all hardware attached during a Windows install and detection of all hardware. You do not get the wizard to allow you to install individual pieces.
You can try removing the modem from device manager or control panel, and before rebooting, go to add/remove hardware and add the modem by name/brand..this might work, but I doubt it.. I have had that tactic work...sometimes.
Or... you can (one more time) wipe the hard drive and reload xp...but, this time...take the %$!#?! modem out of the machine...after winxp is up and running again, replace the modem and reboot..the wizard will see new hardware...and you can pick and choose what name you want it installed under.
