I reformatted an IBM Netvista running 800mhz P3 192mb RAM with a IBM DVD drive and IBM CDRW. It had Windows 2000 on it. I formatted it with a Windows 98 boot disk. The Windows XP pro cd would not install so i had to take out the HD and put it into another comp to install. After install i put the HD back into the Netvista and it only show's the IBM post screen with the IBM trademark. I hear no beeps no clicks....I do hear the HD spin though. I can't even enter the BIOS
Sounds kinda like the BIOS in your Netvista does not recognize the capacity of that drive. I do not know IBM Systems, so I cannot speculate on the what happened bit...but you need to contact IBM I would think and find out the maximum hard drive you can use with that BIOS you have.
How old is the system?...how big is the hard drive?
Its never a good idea to setup a drive on another system, then attempt to get it to run on another..unless you really know the system.
Hey,
Did you try to reset the CMOS? there should be a jumper on the motherboard to reset it. If not, take out the battery and wait for like 15mins. Then put it back in. (make sure its put in correctly)
Post back what happens
Thanks, Paul
I already cleared CMOS...and the HD was there from the previous OS installed (win2k). The problem started after i got Xp installed. When installing Xp on the IBM it would hang on the screen that has the license information on it...all that would show up is a blue screen with a gray bar on the bottom and stay there. Thats why I installed xp on my other comp and then transfered the HD to the IBM. Still have the same problem though....man this is frustrating...
Hey guys thanks for all the help i found out it was a ram problem all i had to do was replace the ram and now i am installing xp it seems to be ok...i'll post back with final result....thanks again!
OMG....this thing is cursed....i keep on getting Error had to Close Program all of the time and after doing fdisk /mbr and format c: and fdisk nothing changes the comp after a couple restarts will lock up. I don't know if it is RAM or maybe a virus. And if it is a virus where is it hiding.
Why don't you download the IBM fitness disk and use the "ERASE DISK" feature and make sure you don't have any virus, after that you can boot with your win2k or xp cd and install from there it will partition and format the disk for you.
well thank goodness i did a bunch of fdisk /mbr and to be honest a bunch of formats and the what not....everything actually seems to be running fine. it has been running without errors for 2 days straight i think it's done thanks for the advice.
