Windows XP query

Hi,

I have a box with XP home installed, can I install XP again on the same box but different HD with the same key etc. Will Microsoft let it activate even tho I have another installed. All the hardware will be the same except the HD.

Before you ask it because I want to try overclocking on a new install before I do it on my main install as I have some bad memory of overclocking, mainly the system file missing or corrupt. If the new install works with overclocking I may use it as the new install and delete the old one.

shouldn't be a problem as it's on the same hardware... I have never heard of them throwing a fit about multiple installs on the same box.. but hey we ARE talking about MS so who knows.. personally I would say go for it.. @ the worst you will have to activate it over the phone. I have xp pro oem and they let me get away with 2 mobo and proc changes...... ( and NO I do not have it installed on multiple boxes fo rthose who may ask)

Why not wait the end of the 30 days before activating?
This way you have 30 days to practive Ocing and toying around. If you hose the install, just format and install again. When you get everything running like you want, then go ahead and activate XP.

Just to update, went past the 30 days and had to phone for a code. Automated system went funny as I changed some hardware but spoke to an operater and all went ok. Got the code and now have two XP installs in the same box.

Change of HD and sound card was the hardware.
