Power Supply replacement suggestions
I have seen in several discussions links to retailers that have good quality power supplies. I have found that I am now in need for a larger more stable power supply then the oem unit that is installed in my PC. the spec for the PC are as follows:
FIC mother board
512mb generic ram
60gb HD Maxtor
30gb HD Seagate(?)
800-850 AMD Athlon cpu
DVD
HP CD-16 CDRW
dual port UBS with powered USB hub attached.
The logic in needing the power supply replacement is when I start my USB video cam and it aquires an image the PC will lock up then reboot. with only 250watts in the system I feel there isn't enough power to support the image process. I have tested the memory using the MS Mem diag tool and it tested clean.
Any suggestions to a power supply that should support what I have would be apprecialted..

I use Antec or Enlight (some of my older comps have generic 300/350W that run fine) but 400w will do for a while, on mine I run
XP2100@2.2Ghz
2x256Mb PC2700
Radeon 9600Pro
Epox 8RDA+
Maxtor 120Gig 7200RPM (used to be 2x40's)
16x DVD drive
Liteon 52x24x52
ATI TVWonder
6 x 80mm antec fans (2 PSU 4 case)
70MM TMD fan
Vid card fan
I have no probs what so ever that are Power supply related, only M$ stuff.

Most folks say to stay away from the no-name elcheapo power supplies...and I concur to that same feeling. But, a couple of years ago, I bought a new case from Newegg that had a 400 watt Codegen power supply inside. So far, it has been a good one. (Now, watch the dang thing die...as soon as I brag on it some, LOL) Codegen 400 watt PSU @ Newegg |

| Quoted from JPMiller in this thread the achieve 500w power supply is all i use at the moment . the first link shows you where you can get it fo 22$ shipped ( unless you are in ca and you will have to pay tax ). I just ordered 2 more of them 2 weeks ago for pc's i am building for family . they are hands down , in my opinion , the BEST budget power supply out there . And i only say budget because of there price . i think they are far from budget .

codegen is the only "comes with the case" PSU, that I keep in the case, have had several of these from the local computer shop where I sometimes pick up deals.

As suggested by JohnP I'm going to move up a couple of steps in Power supplies and purchase a 400 watt unit. It is slightly smaller then what he suggested, but well in line with the suggestions everyone else has made. Thank you all for the very fast response to my question.

You should find some deals on Antec 430w power supplies at places like NewEgg. Their good, I'm considering one, but if your on a budget try a 400w Allied. Their good, really cheap, and very quiet.

The Antec's 'True' series are the ones I run now. They are very stable and the rails run almost dead on voltage wise.
Enermax PS unit are good as well although the rail voltage typically runs a tad bit higher.

Antec Truepower. You will never regret the choice.
