Biostar/AMD question

I have a M7NCG PRO board with an Athlon 2500 chip at 333mhz.

In the bios it only shows FSB @ 166mhz and Memory @ 166.

Also the chip is identified as only 1.09 gig when it is supposed to be 1.83

I am using 2 512 ram boards of DDR 2700 @ 333

Any thoughts??

Probably don't have the correct settings in the bios. Also some boards have a jumper that needs to be set to get the higher FSB settings.

Welcome to the forum!

I think the 166 is correct for that cpu. Since 333mhz is the speed that the cpu uses INTERNALLY the board fsb would be 166.

If its at 1.09 I have a feeling it is actually running the fsb at 100mhz multiplied by the 11 multiplier giving 1.0999999

166x11=1826 or 1.83ghz

Try running wcpuid...its a tiny little program, doesnt even need to be installed, just decompressed to a folder

go here and get the one that says wcpu31a.exe

it should show multipliers and bus speed etc..that'll tell you whats what

AMD/Biostar question

I went into the advanced chipset bios and changed the multiplier to 12.5 from default and the memory spd to 166 from 133 and now the Internal clock is at 1.243 gig

How do I get it up to the 1.83 that it is supposed to be

somehow youre still not getting the fsb to 166..you need to just leave the multiplier at 11 but find out why the fsb isnt 166

AMD/Biostar

How do I find out if the DDR is running at 128 Bit I am wondering if ther could be a problem there.

there is a difference between the memory spped and the fsb of the motherboard..I am sure you can run the motherboard fsb at one speed and the ram at another speed..so maybe you have the ram at 166 but not the fsb.

Did it come with a manual?

AMD/Biostar

I set the FSB @ 166 and the memory speed at (Auto)

Now the WCPU program shows the internal clock @ 1.094 again and the bus speed @ 198.8 Mhz

the multiplier is on auto and shows 11
The system clock is 99.47

Is that all there is? Or do you need a bigger CPU to get the 333mhzFSB that the manual says?

there is a jumper called
"jclk3" on the motherboard...the jumper should be off for 133/166mhz....or on for 100mhz....I wonder if it is on and therefore causing your problems.

The jumper is over about an inch behind the video jacks

"The system clock is 99.47"

see, it is still at 100. Ive got a feeling you have it set right but that jumper is on when it should be off.

No, you have the right cpu! It's just a matter of getting the fsb (system clock) up to speed.

check that jumper, but when you get it right you will need to move the multiplier back to 11 or youll be overclocked and might not boot right.
