TV out Problem with VCR
Hey everyone, noob to the board here. I have a problem, I just got a Radeon 9600, and I am trying to use TV out, for a second monitor, but I have to put the video through my VCR because I have an old tv with no AV slots. Anyways, I can not get a display. I went through the Advanced properties of Display, following ATI's instructions. The problem is that it won't recognize that there is a TV connected. I have no idea what to do, my old card had worked just fine. I apologize in advance if this is an easy problem.

What's your resolution set at? Try 640X480. Also, make sure you have the cables connected properly.

Everything is hooked up properly, and the res is set at 640x480. I am not getting a picture at all though.

Apart from testing on another TV to make sure it works, I have no idea.

Macrovision copy protection it is. TV-out is made specifically to NOT work for VCRs (so you don't copy your DVD or whatever else content to videotape).
Connecting directly to the TV set works? Yes? Well it's this then.

Macrovision shouldn't have anything to do with what he's trying to do. It should work just fine, although the image on the TV won't be great. Be sure the TV and VCR are both on and the TV is set to the appropriate channel (3 or 4), and that the VCR is set to 'line in", then go into your monitor's advanced properties and select the displays tab. You should be able to enable the second monitor (TV) there. It will probably adjust both your regular monitor and TV screen to either 640X480 or 800X600.
If that doesn't work, recheck your cable connections from the card to the VCR. This is usually pretty simple, just a composite cable running from either the card or adapter to the video in port on the VCR. Audio will still have to come from the computer.
Macrovision will come into play if you attempt to watch a DVD from your computer to the TV, but other than that everything should work just fine.
Hope this helps.
Rick

I know that I am doing everything right. Everything is connected perfectly fine the right way, I know what I am doing there. The problem is that in the advanced properties it says that there is no TV connected, although infact it IS connected. I have my audio through a surround environment. I am no noob to this stuff, just to the ATI hardwear. Like I said before, I have never had this problem before. There is no easy human error here (connection problem, wrong channel, etc.) There may be something wrong that I am not doing with the vcr perhaps, I just have it going in my AV front, which is working because I just tested my PS2 video in, and its working fine.
I appreciate the help, but I assure you something else is wrong here.

Check your menu on your VCR. Sometimes you have to enable the Line ins. My sisters VCR will only let the RCA VIdeo be active or the SVideo be active but not at the same time...

If it doesn't even detect something connected to the TV-out, then you got an electrical problem. The detection is done by sensing the correct electrical load on the TV-out pins. If your VCR doesn't do that right, it won't be detected. Recent ATi drivers let you force the TV-out enabled if that happens.
