windows xp based issues, several

a few disconcerting problems have arisen in one of my boxes that i have been unable to track down. help appreciated:

whats new? - i recently started lugging one of my comps to work bcz my workstation sux and the tasks i have to complete go well beyong its capabilities.

i added my work log on as a user account,

i dont know if its related but some network connections cannot be re-established as of late. i can still log on, but now not all connections are listed.

i re-installed winsock proxy to no avail.

also, some program shortcuts have started forgetting the targets they are associated with.

also, some programs have inexplicably disappeared. cia unerase does not even list them as being erased. i lost my morrowind save game and as any1 who has played the game knows, that was weeks of playing it down the tubes. all else i could re-install, but that pissed me off.

but what takes the crown is i just installed adobe photoshop cs. i added a few plug ins. was working fine for several days. now i get runtime errors 216 at 00002a3c. windows error reporting has not helped. adobe has not helped beyond saying it sounds like a hardware problem.

what have i done?
full system scan with norton and f-prot with latest virus definitions.

ran ad-aware and anti trojan.

ran sandra 2004 full system tests

tested each piece of hardware on diff machines and ran smart tests on hard drives.

checked temp inside box and cpu/motherboard w/bundled asus utility. running 9C mobo and 22C cpu. well below threshold.

nothing is overclocked. all soft retail and legal ( well most of it, but nothing critical is illegal. xp/adobe,office all legal )

amd 2600 w/333fsb runing 2088mhz
ati radeon 7500
512mb matched pc 2700
4 hdds, 2 maxtor 40's, 2 ibm 80's
asus a7n8x deluxe rev 4 with latest bios.
tdk velo cd/rw
mad dog dvd player.

enviorenment:
win xp sp1 with all critical updates.
connected to http server running nt 4.0

any ideas?

is there a list of post- sp1 "issues" or bugs on the m$ website? << i know theres one
for w2k post-sp4 bugs>>
have you done any recent updates of drivers or xp or IE that maybe need rolling back ?

i found that 216 refers to subseven trojan.

i ran ghostbuster to find 3 others as well. shame on me for being complacent. re-install of windows solved most problems. still chasing down random restart issue, but i beleive i laid the access bviolations to rest.
