apache webserver help

I just found a link and downloaded apache 2.0. Installed it, I have a icon in the systems tray for apache and when I type in my local ip it comes up. But when I type in my external ip it just errors out. What do I have to configure?

So when you type something like 192.168.xx.xx it works? But when you type your WAN it doesn't work? If so you need to port forward port 80 to your servers LAN IP which is usually something like 192.168.x.x.

local works but lan does not. I have the router/modem setup with a static NAT to my computer. This has always opened up all the ports.

Usually you would just copy the picture to your htdocs folder. And then you would just go to http://family-fun-site.com/yourimage.gif or something like that

i would say apache is working correctly if you caan access it via localhost.

can you connect to your site via your IP ?
