is it worth upgrading from geforce4 mx420 to the ati 9600 xt???

Yes, even an Nvidia 5200 runs better than any MX card.

Very yes. nice system except the vid card. Definitely replace that stinker. A 9600 would complement that nicely.

awesome.... i already ordered it yesterday on newegg
but it has been on step 2 the whole time :-(
besides that... in 3dmark2001 SE i got a score of around 4100
what u guys think it would be with the ATI 9600 XT??

I get just over 11,000 3dmark2k1 with my 9600pro, I haven't tweaked it at all and left the settings on default (except for Vsync.)

my system is close to yours

Athlon XP2100@2.2Ghz (just over XP2700 speeds)
Epox 8RDA+
2x256Mb PC2700 in dual channel
120Gb Maxtor 7200 2Mb
ATI boxed Radeon 9600Pro 128Mb

nice upgrade and your performance may be a bit higher or lower, post back your score so I can compare
