floppy-less:( in da UP

wifeys new computer(well, mostly new)has a floppy drive in it. i KNOW we ve used it before, cause of backups for quicken.

well, tonite it decides to leave us. its in the device manager, but will not work. i uninstalled the driver, went to add hardware wizard, ran the wizard,it said "hey, you ve got a floppy". checked device manager, driver was reinstalled. went to my computer and its not there.

i right click on"send to" drop down list and its not there either.

so the machine recognizes it when i uninstall the driver, installs the driver, but i cant find the damn thing.

every few years i need to use the stupid thing, and its gone!

maybe ruby can find it when she gets home.

any ideas??

i d hate to burn a cd for what little space i need.

thanks,eh??

brad

it says"that drive is unavailable" with a big bunch of babble after that.

i tried uninstalling driver and unplugging floppy, restarting so machine would see that there was no floppy ,shutdown again and replugging cable, and restarting. gave this machine every oppertunity to find it,but i guess it aint happenin.

i guess its burnin time

When you start the machine up does the light on the floppy come on at all?

Can you put in a bootable floppy and see if it will boot from floppy... you might have to go into the BIOS and set it to boot from floppy. This is just to trouble shoot if the drive can be accessed.

Did you try booting with a bootable floppy? i.e. an old 98 startup disk will work.

You can use the multi meter to see if the connector has power. Most PS's have 2 floppy connectors so you might try switching.

If you have power to the connectors and the floppy drive won't run then it sounds like the drive may have died.

You said the system was new maybe they will stand behind the drive and replace it for you.
