Z-680 and onboard SoundMax

I am getting a set of Logitech Z-680 5.1 speakers, and I will be using the onboard 5.1 sound of my Asus P4C800 Deluxe, which has a digital coax connection (SoundMax 4XL). How good will the speakers sound with the onboard sound ?

If i'm correct, you cant use digital connections for games (unless you dont want the 'steps around you' effect)

I could be wrong though.

Those are good speakers. I dont know how much of a bottleneck the onboard sound will be though
