I am shopping for a new computer. I noticed some computers have onboard AC97 sound, while others specifically say they have 6 speaker output. What is the difference. I thought AC97 supported surround sound output. Any advice?
While I'm not positive, I believe the boards saying 6 speaker support actually have jacks for all 6 speakers. (ie left/right, left/ right surr/ and center/sub)
any soundcard that supports stereo will support surround sound if you have it go into a receiver with dolby pro logic as the surround and center channel are encoded in the stereo mix (assuming the source material has it of course)
