java applets don't run on XP home edition

I'm not much of a techie. I've got XP home edition. Some features on the net don't load and the message "java must be enabled" displays. In the security menu, I do have java enabled.
Help?

Has Java been installed...

IfI'm not mistaken, Microsoft no longer is allowed to include Java in windows... You have to get it from SUN.
