Power Button

hi everyone

ok my computer has been working fine in the past, but now when i turn my computer on after its been off for the night, the power comes on when i push the button but goes off as soon as i release the button, if i toggle the switch on the back of the PS then hit the power button everything works fine. is this a PS going bad? I dont have any problems when the computer is running, just at the initial powerup in the morning.

thanks for the help

It almost sounds like a bad power switch on the case. But you say that you need to switch the PSU on and off to get it to work? If that's the case then maybe it's time for a new PSU. They can be had fairly cheaply these days. I think there was one posted here for $11.70 shipped.

There is still a possibility that the case power switch is flaky. Try this..swap the power on switch with the reset switch (just turn it on and off with the reset switch.. they are the same type) see if that fixes it. If not, then leave the power on to the computer (but with the computer itself shut down) and when you hit the switch in the mornings..see if that makes any difference. You did not say if you completely removed all AC from the computer by maybe using a power strip etc. and you kill the AC going to the PSU. The PSU has a 5 volt circuit that you cannot turn off..it is running at all times the PSU has AC applied..this extra 5 volts is called the power good circuit and has something to do with turning the main supply on and off..but it is never turned off, unless there is a master switch between the PSU and the wall socket.
