What kind of an adapter? When I have tried to use some ps/2 to serial adapters they are sorta hit and miss as to when they work and when they dont. In other words sometimes they work, sometimes they dont, lol.

Is there anything in the bios that needs to be turned on?

it's a 9 pin plug in in back of laptop....have an adaptor plugged into that then plugged my mouse into it (round connector).

but windows does not pick up external mouse...have gone to control panel etc., can't figure out how to get it to recognize the external mouse instead of the little one in the middle of the keyboard...rather use external. I guess it doesn't really matter, but setting it up for my daughter to use for her school work. Going to hook it up through router so both mine and the laptop can run off LAN/CABLE.

Toshiba Satellite T2130CS
16 mg mem
500 mg hard drive
1.44 drive
not sure on graphic driver...only 256 color compatible

still having trouble..kinda sucks..has a bios program under windows...switched it so ps/2 mouse would work, i am guessing that is what i should set it to...says the onboard mouse and the ps/2 should both work.... but still external mouse not working.

Hey Sweeper,

I've found that the serial to ps2 adapters can be finicky, the MS adapters seem to work with all mice & other adapters seem only to work with the mouse they came with.

it's such an old system, don't even know what type of graphics the thing has...just wanted it to be easier to use for my daughter...the little green toggle in center of keyboard can be a pain...tried everything..can't figure how to enter bios by startup...doesn't show anything just goes into windows...hmmm

I have an old Toshiba that has a single ps2 socket so you can have either a keyboard or mouse plugged in, but not both.

is that the round connector? mine has a keyboard above it so i didn't plug it into that, but used an adaptor and plugged it into the 9 pin square type in back...sorry, don't know the technical terms for all this...

Plug your PS/2 mouse into the PS/2 input (even though it has keyboard above it) it should work fine. If all else fails buy a cheapo mouse with a 3 1/2 floppy driver disk.
