welcome to the forum!

I was always under the impression that it had to be in the C:\ itself..just loose, not in any folder etc.

Here is a huge reference and list for boot.ini http://www.labmice.net/Windows2000/install/bootini.htm

http://windowsnt.about.com/library/w...htm?once=true&

On an Intel-based system (which will be assumed for the sake of simplicity in this article), boot.ini is a hidden, read-only text file stored in the root of the system partition.

"system" partition is msofts way of saying root of the c: drive usually, lol. (whereas "boot" partition is where the windows files are, which could be on any drive etc)

Send a message via AIM to hawkeye177
try going into command prompt and type
cd c:\ to get into your hard drive and then type
boot.ini and it should pop up.

Can't you type msconfig in RUN and it will allow you to change the boot.ini file?
