Internet not working...

ok i just installed my new processor, and my computer finally boots up, BUT i dont have highspeed internet. i plugged the ethernet cable into the computer and the cable modem is working properly. and the lights for the ethernet are flashing on the back of the computer... any ideas??

All you did was swap the CPU?
What OS are you using?
Have you reset the cable modem? Unplug the power for about 15-20 seconds, plug it back in...that way it can recognize the NIC again.

ok here is the deal.... right now i have 3 computers sitting here. only ONE can get onto the internet. the other two the lights for the cable modem are all on, and the lights for the ethernet are also on.

for the computer where i replace the processor, it was b/c i burnt out the old one. i replaced it w/ an amd athlonXP 2200, but for some reason it seems to run slower, WTf????


so will resettting the cable modem really work?

Well I can't guarantee that of course, but it is probably the #1 fix for connection errors/problems...aside from rebooting. Just give it a shot, only takes 20 seconds!

ok cool thanks man, hey do u know why my computer w/ the new processor seems to run slower now??

it was a 1.72 and now its a 1.8

and when i first replaced it, it had some errors on win xp pro...i also cleared out the ram and cmos i think thats it..

Usually when my DSL goes down I unplug the modem and router, go get something to drink, and come back and plug in the modem first then the router. If that still doesn't work, I just reboot my computer and that usually takes care of it.

It might not be actually a 1.8 right now, make sure it is running at the right FSB. Whenever I put my AMD Athlon XP 2500+ and always "auto-adjusts" to 100mhz fSB so I have to change it to 166mhz. I think 1.8 runs at 100mhz usually but I would double check.

You need to go into your BIOS. Usually whenever your computer starts up you will have to press DEL or another button to get there.
