They will not make any difference in your internet connection. Unless you have an OC-12 or two running to your house.

For transferring large files locally among PC's on the LAN.. you will probably see improvement..

DVNT1, Do you know what your average transfer speed is between 2 computers on your LAN both using Gigibit over a switched enviroment? Curious to see if its worth my time. on my 100Mbit network I transfer at about 8MB a sec between my computers.

phenious: I have tested it but I don't recall the rate now. I'll test it tomorrow and post the results.

I'm showing 221.5Mb as a max since I enabled NetStat Live to watch the rate. This is just daily use on a production server.

When I test using WS_ping Propack I get 262.12 megabits/sec. I was using a ping packet size of 16,383 bytes.

Take under consideration this is a production server that has other traffic most of the time, so peak should be even higher.

That's pretty darn good, I've been considering running a gigabit switch myself instead of this linksy router 10/100. I'm sure it will be worth it, but I will have to wait awhile on getting it, I figure it will be about 200 dollars for an 8 port switch I've seen and a few network cards ought to do it since my motherboard didn't come with onboard gigabit networking.

Ok so the Jump from 100Mbit to 1000Mbit gave a ~18MB a second increase... not bad... dont know if its worth the cost though... Ill have to do some more reading. Thanks DVNT1
