Very weird!Word kills the monitor..

Hi everybody,
ok this what is happening to a friends pc and its very strange.Whenvever he opens word(office xp-winxp) and works for a while then suddenly the screen goes off!Even the small light of the screen goes out and the button doesnt work if you try to open again..Its actually exactly as if the power cord of the monitor is out..Windows work normaly cause of you try to click in random you hear the usual sounds. The only way to resume is to use the keyboard to put computer into stand by mode and normal again and then the screan lights again...we uninstalled and reinstalled office from different cd but same thing..Noticed that if u open word and dont work on it,just leave it open this doesnt happen..I really have no idea what is causing this so any help would be great..
thank you..

System is entering standby some how then. ACPI might be fudged. Try reinstalling your mobo drivers with up to date ones. Its usually the cause of these kinda standby power issues. That or you could disable standby/deep sleep all together. Mobo driver update is always a good thing though when you have such issues.
