Kids XP Clients disconect from domain controller.

I am the IT Director for a logistics company and have been having this problem for a few months. I have a Windows 2000 Server no a Dell Server box running as the primary domain controller. I have a mixed client environment in the domain with Windows 2000 Professional clients and now XP Professional clients also.

Lately, the XP clients have been getting regular disconnects from the domain controller and the shares on it throughout the day. If I log off the user and log them back in, sometimes it fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. If I log them out and log myself in...then log them back in, it works...till the next disconnect. They are not losing their network ability to the internet just to the domain controller and shares/printers. I have updated just about all of the XP clients and am leaning toward the idea that this might be a server problem. Here are some network specifics:

All clients have static address.
Primary DNS server for clients is the PDC.
The Server is a Dell as well as the new Dell Workstations.
Everyone is up to date on their virus definitions.
There is nothing about these events in the logs on the server or the clients.

Can anyone shed their insight on this issue because it is killing me and my users are getting annoyed at not being able to save their work on the shares when they get disconnected.

Thank you very much.

If you think that it may possibly be a server problem why not try to replicate and have the other system take control as master? Just make sure your exclusions don't overlap. Or configure a seperate machine as a dns server for the XP machinces. Have you flushed dns?

Does this mean the clients receive a message like "network is not found or unavailable" when then trying to open the mapped drive?

Some questions:
1) Try to open or map the share but use IP address in place of host name; does this work?

2) Can you successfully ping the DC by IP address?

3) Can you successfully ping the DC by host name?

4) Does nslookup resolve internal names correctly?
