how to break in the thermal paste?

some people say you have to the pc on for an hour and then turn off, and let it cool, then turn it on again.... several times is that true?

how to do it properly?

I have seen tests that they run it, then shut it down for 24 hrs before doing the test.
I think the reason it gets better over the first 2 day is that the extra grease gets squeezed out and also fills the microscopic hole and grooves in the heatsink and the CPU.

I don't see why shutting it down would help this.

Just use your PC as you normally would, after two days, the effect of the thermal grease will be at it's maximum.

Yep, thats the same artical I read, and like I said I don't see what shutting down for any amount of time would do.

ok...this is a matter of common sense, it is Not an old wives tale like bailey suggests.
Thermal paste does not "break in", exactly, but it does heatup, thin out and flatten into ridges, crevices and uneven areas... artic silver in particular is well known for "curing", for lack of better term, over the course of a day or two.
