motherboard upgrade problem

I just upgraded to a new mother board on a system I built a year ago.

It had a soyo kt333 dragon lite
the new mother board is a gigabyte 7n400 pro2 (k7 triton)

512 mb ddr (in slot 1)

9000 ati radeon atlantis w/128 mb ram

true 550 antec power supply

amd xp 2000 cpu (1.68 Gb)

All the lights come on when I hit the power button, but the chipset fan doesn't spin and I never get the bios beep. I here the harddrive spin, I see the cpu fan spin.

There is always a possibility of more than one problem...like maybe a dead chipset fan?..

Other than this, check to see that the CPU is fully seated and its fan is connected to the CPU fan header on the motherboard. I don't know anything about your board, but I do know that some mainboards have a feature to detect if a CPU fan is connected properly..if not, the board will not start..this is a CPU protection feature. Be very sure the ram is plugged in completely..some is so difficult that you will hear it snap when it seats...only have the bare essentials plugged into the board, video card, ram and cpu is all.

If this still does not give you video, remove the main board and place it on a phone book outside of the case..this time, don't even connect the keyboard.

Is it possible that you moved the power switch over to 230 volt from 115 volt on the back of your power supply?

Didn't change the ps setting at all...

After cutting it on and off a few times the chipset fan now spins, but I still never get the POST beep and I didn't get to the bios screen.

I tried unplugging the Keyboard and mouse. No change.

Should I try disconnecting the cd roms also during this.

Right now the only things plugged in are the CPU, AGP card, DDR ram, and the CDroms.

Going back to the basics...have you tried clearing your CMOS yet?
Also, do as Buvon suggested and move your mobo out of the case and see if it will post up.

BTW, Welcome to TechIMO!!!

Ok, I checked and rechecked all the connections, but it wasn't until I started to unplug the AGP card to reseat it, that I saw that it wasn't plugged in all the way... Ok, everyone is thinking "That moron!"

I deserve it! lol

Now, I've never messed with this RAID stuff yet, I just have one 80G HardDrive... I'm guessing that since I hit the "Blue Screen of Death" after Checking the Bios settings that I should have disabled all that stuff, huh?

By the way, I have Windows X*cough*P...

Nice to see you still kicking Martoch! You help me out a lot last year when I put this baby together! I'm not sure what my user name was back then... lol

Sweet, glad I could help you then...I would have suggested you seat your card properly, but I assumed you had already done so!

You made my day!

Now, I just have to win this fight with Mr. Blue Screen!

I tried to use the repair feature of the windows XP disk, but it seems like I need to tell it what to repair. I was hoping for an auto utility...

Any easy way of getting around a complete reformat and clean install?

I thought about..but dismissed the video card not being seated..that is a common problem with AGP cards..but you said you had no POST beeps... that was unusual because if the video card is not installed (not seated good) you should get some POST beeps.

Glad you got it..and it was not a major malfunction...
