Hard drives have been opened and re closed...and they continued to work..how ever, for those that worked ok, there were maybe quite a few that did not.

Hard drives are assembled in an ultra clean sterile environment and then hermetically sealed. A very small particle of dust on the platters can cause a skip or total failure I have read.

I wouldn't open one of my "working" drives, but if it got flaky enough or failed...then yes, I would go into it. Perhaps your best bet would be to get a second drive, copy this one to the other drive, then if you have a good working drive with your data on it..then....open the old noisy drive

Have you ever heard an auto go by with a bad, leaking muffler?

Personally, its difficult for me to understand how a hard drive could have withstood the shock of any blow that would have punctured a hole in it. The metal encasement is pretty thick and sturdy.. and I have had hard drives go bottom up by simply dropping them on the floor from a distance of about 3.5 feet (89mm).

I think what he meant was that there was a sticker on the side of the drive that was punctured. That is actually not that hard to do with all the cheap cases they are making now. I practically almost did it last night.

if you mean this silver tape is working as a muffler in the HArd Disk so this sound that i hear in the drive is normal.

i think i'll open the cover of the drive and try to check it ,
then i'll tell you what's happen.. and i'll make a foto for each process.
